All they have to do all day is sit around, play video games, and hammer out a comic every couple of days to keep the masses appeased."

Holy cow was I wrong. I got started on the easter episode today. My girlfriend drew it up for me; all I had to do was pull it into GIMP, erase out some eraser smudges, slap in some speech bubbles, and maybe even color it if I was feeling ambitious.

Well, after I spent the first hour figuring out how to even use the GIMP editor (first time user tonight), I spent the next hour removing eraser smudge marks from tiny crevices at a zoom level of 800% with a .25 brush sized eraser. Needless to say, I have a new appreciation for the work that web-comic developers do. I am sorry Penny Arcade, I am sorry for assuming that your job is easy.

Hopefully, with the blessings of luck, patience, patience, and maybe even a little patience, I will have "Easter Egg Hunting" done by Friday. If you're wondering about that last blog post (the one on March 2nd), it was an attempt at testing the Google search feature of blogspot. Blogspot has this setting that bloggers can enable that supposedly makes your site come up on Google. I checked the box, and was trying to think of a way I could get our site to come up reasonably high in the search results so I wouldn't have to wade through quadrillions of pages of results before I found out if we were, in fact, included when you searched for "video gamer web comic". The only way I could think to do this was to have a very specific phrase that when put into quotes, wouldn't return very many search results. Long story short, Blogspot is full of shit (Big Surprise!), and when I searched for the contents of that post, I got zero hits on Google.

2.) Good news for the world of TK & PJ. I had my people talk to some other people and we got some things worked out. What that means decryptified and normal-like is this: a fine man by the name of Nick Ohrn (www.nickohrn.com) has agreed to help us out with designing TK & PJ's very own homepage...with less bullshit! YAY! Expect that to launch within the next couple of months.

3.) I wrote out a concept and script for an easter episode, issue, whatever of TK & PJ, but it will probably be a while before you guys get to see it. My lovely girlfriend Vivian, who is far more artistically talented than I, decided to take a crack at drawing for us. Trouble being, she actually has to try where she goes to school. If it takes all that long, I will probably just hammer it out and you can look at hers when she gets it done.

4.) GAMES! What you really care about, right? My opinion. Frontlines: Fuel of War came out a few weeks ago, and I played for all of 6-8 hours before I was so sick of it, I couldn't even look at the cover art without getting ill. I got it because I liked the concept of a Battlefield-esque game in which the "front line" of battle is constantly fluctuating based on how well your team is able to push back opposing forces. Unfortunately, what it actually turned out to be was a rather un-spectacular, almost boring FPS which had an arbitrary red/blue color-barrier on your mini-map which moved when you completed an objective. The rocket launcher makes a cool "clink" sound when you pull it out, which kept me interested for a about twenty minutes, but I think that was the game's best feature........

Vegas 2 came out last week. Maybe I am just a sucker for this series, but I absolutely love this game. It is the only game that I have ever finished, and then immediately began playing again on the next difficulty. Granted, I have played many games more than once on increasing difficulty scales, but usually I would take a break for at least a few hours in between. I suppose I could write a more in depth review, with all the things I really like about this game (New weapon unlock system, ranking up in campaign mode, better enemy AI, bullet penetration that actually makes sense, new levels that showcase the new features very well, etc.), but if you care that much, just buy the game, you won't regret it.

Force Unleashed in, like, three weeks. *cum*

5.) Life in general...well...this post is too long anyway, come back for more later.

TK out.

Fuck You Blogspot

Ok guys. I suppose you fine readers did not have the benefit of my famous one sentence review of the Turok demo I got when I reserved the game a couple of months ago. Now that I think of it, I am not sure that you guys even had the benefit of knowing that one sentence reviews are a service I provide. Well anyway, here is my original one-sentence review of the Turok reserve demo:

It seems like it could go either way; the demo shows promise; if they keep working at it, it could be an incredible game, but if this is all I am going to get, I will be disappointed.

Ok, so technically my "one sentence review" was actually an atrocious, although grammatically sound, run-on, but you get the point.

Anyway, I have good news. Touchstone (Games? Pictures? Studios? Whatever) has delivered the goods. Although the GameFAQS forums are deeply divided about the quality of the game and the finer points of animated grass sprites and auto-aim features, I feel like this game is really a good time. And as a side benefit, I have never been more prepared for the Raptor Apocalypse; surely I have never seen more instructional videos on how to stab a raptor in the head.

TK out....(I thought I would try a sign-out line).

Ok...I'm not gonna lie anymore.

So, I am rapidly beginning to see the futility of even attempting to define a deadline for this whole web-comic thing. You see, the problem is simply that PJ and I are slackers.
Material is not the problem. We have hilarious lives; virtually every conversation we have is grounds for it's own comic (ranging from what the Templars are thinking in Assassin's Creed, The most violent movie ever not made (Care Bear Marauder), and even the dangers of trying to play a drinking game with the Star Wars...uhm....sextilogy, I guess.)
The actual problem in comic production is when we actually have to do something. A distinct lack of actual skill in drawing or web design isn't a huge help, either.

But that is no reason for us to not have an active blog, right?

In unrelated news, I am stoked that the Pats got their asses stuck with a great big Plasma 'nade in tonight's game. I was still pissed about them cheating against the Jets earlier this season.
I know, I know, "TK! What the hell are you doing watching professional sports?!" Well you see, it wasn't all bad. My compatriots and I happened to be taking advantage of a marvelous double TV set-up to play some Halo 3 while we watched. Don't worry, nothing could take me away from Halo.

A couple of funny lines came up while we were playing:
"Ok dude, for the last time, if you are running towards someone firing a needler at you, change your strategy, you're going to blow up!"
and
"Where the hell did that come from"
"I walked up to you and put a needle grenade on your face.....boop."
(For maximum humor effect, be sure to read that 'boop' as in the near final scene of Super Bad when the kids go to bed together.)

We're getting started....we swear...honest....

So, it occurred to me that there has been a distinct lack of activity in the area of getting-shit-done on the blog/web comic.

You see life has been very busy for PJ and I. Between getting jobs, juggling my relationship and an Asian mistress at the China Buffet, and coming up to visit my friends at good old RHIT, (each of which will get its own blog post) I have been pretty busy. And PJ, well, he has been...uhm...PJ.

But I can promise you that we are working on it. PJ and I are furiously scribbling away little sketches and drawings and character art and scripts for future comics. Ok...not really. But we are coming up with enough ideas that once we learn how to draw, we will be set for a while.

Just give us a few more weeks...we promise...we can get the stuff...we just need more time.

The Beginnings...

My name is TK, and I am a member of a strange, although not necessarily rare class of people who spend a large portion of life playing video games, talking about video games, and reading about video games on the internet.

I suppose we do other things... Many of us can make any number of impressive claims completely unrelated to video gaming. Some of us speak fluent Klingon or Elvish; some of us have seen every episode of Transformers. The highest members of our culture might be able to tell you how many stormtroopers were stationed on the Death Star during the Battle of Yavin (607,360).

Another popular past time of my people is reading various "web-comics" written and illustrated by people very similar to us. These comics illustrate the hilarious antics that happen to all of us...well, I suppose I will have to come up with a name for our species.

If you are reading this, you are probably either one of us, or in love with one of us...let's face it, Normals aren't drawn to this kind of thing. More to the point, my good friend PJ and I have reached the proverbial limit break, or for those of you who didn't play FF VII, breaking point. PJ and I have realized that our lives are just too damn funny not to share with the rest of the world. Unfortunately, neither of us are particularly skilled with a pencil. So, until we pick up an artist, or God decides to grace one of us with a miraculous ability to illustrate, we will express the simple humor in our lives to you, the public, via this, our personal com-link with the world.

Welcome to TK & PJ, the web log.
